Recession causes more marital trouble but lower divorce rates

A recent University of Virgina study suggests that while the lengthy recession is putting pressure on marriages, the financial strain has actually prevented many couples from divorcing.  According to the study, increased financial concerns have caused additional strain in many marriages, but couples are finding it difficult or impossible to afford to divorce.  Legal fees and separate homes are no longer something that middle Americans can afford.

The University of Virginia’s National Marriage Project released the study yesterday afternoon.  Read more about the National Marriage Project and get a link to the study here.
